On the way to Losacio de Alba, Spain

On the way to what would be the most wonderful accommodation yet, we passed through many tiny rural villages – the blink-and-you-miss-them variety.
Often the villages were dead quiet but occasionally you would see a group of old men either standing having a chat or seated at a roadside taverna. I observed this and remarked to Jason that all the men were in the tavernas socialising, while the women were at home cleaning their homes and preparing their dinners. The next thing we saw was an ancient crone dressed in black walking up a very steep hill with a hoe over her shoulder. How wrong could I be? The women weren’t at home but rather were tilling the fields in the hot sun!!! How’s that for division of labour!!!
