STREETS OF OIA, SANTORINI

SNT151007

We caught a bus one morning to the village of Oia, north of the main town (Fira). The village is built on a very steep slope of the caldera and therefore the views are particularly impressive, especially at sunset. We walked down about 300 precipitous steps to the tiny port of Ammoudi, where there are traditional tavernas and a rocky path you can follow along the edge of the sea. We then had to walk back up those 300 ancient steps, which was as breathtaking as the views from the top! The Rykersaurus enjoyed the climb, especially when we passed some donkeys at a rest stop. It was only a matter of time really; we had been dodging their excreta throughout the entire journey (or in the case of the Rykersaurus, enthusiastically photographing it).
