Rykersaurus in Lion City

G5-130115Yippee! Ensconced in the Swissotel Stamford, opposite the Chijmes complex on Bras Basah Rd. Great view of the city from the 15th Floor. Love Singapore. Been there so often in the last few years that  it feels like home but with a few more tall buildings and better grooming (architecture and people alike).  The grooming thing makes me feel a bit like a street person (which, by the way, you don’t see here) but I plod on in my sensible Mary Jane trainers remembering that it’s what is on the inside that counts. (Note to self: do some quick work on the inside and then buy some shiny red pumps).

I have summarised the Singers experience into some highlights – see below.

The Merlion – Sentosa

Took the broadwalk over to Sentosa to see the magnificent Merlion – upper part Lion, lower part Mermaid – a visit we had promised Ryker ever since he saw the smaller version near the waterfront last year.

Sentosa is a great place for kids – we stayed there a few years ago. There are loads of cafes and beaches, resorts etc. Universal Studios is also there, with an adjoining resort. We were only there for a short time this trip but might stay in Sentosa again next time.

The Toy Museum

This place is incredible! Spread over  five floors and looking more like a cafe or nightclub from the outside,  this place is jam-packed with a private collector’s toys from the early 1900s through to the 1970s. Amazing. Jason and I even recognised some of them from our own childhood/s – made us feel really old (and wish we’d kept them to flog and make lots of money). There were original Mickey Mouse, Popeye, Batman and James Bond toys, for example, as well as Beatles Memorabilia.

Drinks at the Chijmes Centre

There are some lovely shops and restaurant/bars within this complex. Really great place to have a pre-dinner drink. Plenty of room on the tables for little dinosaurs to play with toys or draw and a grassed area if they need to let off steam.

Egg Prata at the Raffles Shoppping Centre Food Court

Rykersaurus’ favourite meal was egg prata, which is basically a very thin dough with an egg cracked into it, which is then fried. He couldn’t get enough of them! The fossils liked them too.

Dubai is calling…..

  1. Singapore has changed a wee bit since I was there in the mid 60s, I don’t recognise anything you mention except the Bras Basah Road. Enjoy and we will see you soon.
