It was such a delight to sit in the Sifnos waterfront cafes. The water was so clear that you could see the various schools of fish glide through it. Often, little groups of Greek boys would gather with their coil of fishing line or scoop nets, waiting for the fish to bite. Not sure that they ever got any but as is the case with fishing in general, I guess, the joy is in the anticipation.  And of course, when one of the fishing lines is drawn in with too much gusto, flies over your head and hits your friend – that provoked a great deal of laughter!
